The Tesylate agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot
Last updated:
In plain English: Add the Tesylate agent to Copilot and you can ask about your own business figures from the chat, and look up or change records in Tesylate too. You sign in with your own Tesylate account, so it can only see what you’d be able to see in Tesylate anyway. You can disconnect it whenever you want.
What the agent does
This is a declarative agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot. It connects Copilot to your Tesylate workspace using our MCP server, so you can get at your Tesylate data from a Copilot chat. It works in Microsoft 365 Copilot, on the web or in the app, and in Copilot in Microsoft Teams too.
The main thing it’s for is business questions. Ask how sales are tracking and you get the figure back along with the definition and date range it’s based on. If a number doesn’t look right, you can ask for the rows behind it.
It’ll also find modules and records for you, each with a link back to Tesylate. It can list your dashboards as well, with a link that opens each one in Tesylate - Copilot won’t show the dashboard itself.
And it can create records, update them or change their status. It can’t delete anything.
One thing on wording: in Tesylate the records in a module are called “entries”, which is why you’ll see that word in the tables and prompts further down.
Before you start
You need an active Tesylate account to use the agent. If your organisation isn’t a Tesylate customer yet, contact us. The account needs to be on a Tesylate subscription and have access to at least one workspace.
You’ll also need Microsoft 365 Copilot, or Copilot Chat if your organisation lets you use agents in it. The agent has to be made available by your Microsoft 365 administrator first - they do that in Microsoft 365 admin center > Agents. Once it’s listed for you, add Tesylate from the agent store.
Signing in
The first time you use it, Copilot will ask to connect to Tesylate. Select Allow, then Sign in to Tesylate, and our sign-in page opens. Sign in the same way you would for the Tesylate app, with your Microsoft account or your Tesylate email and password.
After that Tesylate shows its own consent screen, where you pick the workspace the agent should use and select Approve.
Everything the agent does goes through your Tesylate roles and permissions. Copilot never gets your password, and it never gets the credentials for the source systems behind Tesylate either.
How sign-in works
The agent uses Tesylate’s MCP server, at
https://app.tesylate.com/mcp/directory, and signs in with OAuth 2.0 and
PKCE. It asks for the following permissions:
| Scope | What it allows |
|---|---|
mcp.modules.read |
Read module definitions and their fields |
mcp.modules.entries.read |
Read entries in modules you can access |
mcp.modules.entries.write |
Create and update entries, and set entry status |
mcp.dashboards.read |
List the dashboards you can access |
mcp.matrix.read |
Query figures and drill into the rows behind them |
offline_access |
Keep the connection working between sessions |
Example prompts
- “How did sales change month on month over the last six months?”
- “Show me the rows behind the September figure.”
- “Which Tesylate modules can I see?”
- “Show me the most recent entries in our site visits module.”
- “Create an entry in the site visits module for tomorrow morning at Riverside.”
- “List my Tesylate dashboards.”
Changing records
The agent won’t make a change without asking first. It tells you what’s about to change and asks if you’re happy, and Copilot normally puts up its own Confirm and Cancel prompt on top of that.
Once it’s made the change you’ll see a card with the record’s title, status and module, and an Open in Tesylate option if you want to look at it there.
The agent’s tools
It has thirteen tools, and your Tesylate permissions apply to all of them:
| Tool | Reads or writes |
|---|---|
| List Tenants | Read |
| Search Tesylate | Read |
| Ask Data | Read |
| Drill Down Matrix Data | Read |
| List Modules | Read |
| Get Module | Read |
| List Entries | Read |
| Get Entry | Read |
| Get Entry Status | Read |
| List HTML Dashboards | Read |
| Create Entry | Write |
| Update Entry | Write |
| Set Entry Status | Write |
Limitations
The agent answers in English. Dashboards open in Tesylate rather than in the chat, and the agent can’t delete anything. It also only reaches Tesylate - it has no access to your email, files or chats.
Disconnecting
You can disconnect from the agent’s settings in Copilot, or in Tesylate under Settings > MCP connectors. If you do it in Tesylate, every token on that connection stops working straight away.
Data handling
Tesylate receives the tool requests Copilot makes, with their arguments. We don’t receive your Copilot conversation. Your data is still covered by our privacy notice and our Data Processing Addendum, and section 3.6 of the privacy notice deals with AI assistants such as Copilot.
